On Wednesday night at the Philsports Arena in Pasig, San Miguel eliminated the desperate Blackwater team 124-109, putting them one victory away from an uncommon elimination-round sweep. PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup.
The Beermen had a strong start, but it was not until the fourth quarter that they really took off, winning their tenth straight game and knocking the Bossing out of the postseason race.
Half of the six players who scored 20 or more overall in the win finished in double figures. With 26 points, five rebounds, and five assists, CJ Perez took the lead.
Don Trollano scored twenty-five points on six of his seven three-pointers, and June Mar Fajardo recorded a double double with sixteen rebounds and twenty-one points.
The victory not only extended their winning run to 12 games, which dates back to the Philippine Cup of Season 48, but it also put the icing on a historic evening in which the team retired Arwind Santos’s No. 29 jersey.
San Miguel will try to achieve just the fifth elimination round sweep in PBA history on Saturday, May 4, at the Batangas City Coliseum, assuming they defeat Meralco. The game starts at 6:15 p.m.
Troy Rosario, James Kwekuteye, and Jaydee Tungcab all scored fifteen points apiece to lead Blackwater, who lost 3–7.
At the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig, on Saturday, the Bossing will conclude their campaign against Phoenix (3-7) in a matchup between clubs who are also running.
