The newly awarded MVP revealed that he has been taking shooting practice at the gym of, University of Perpetual Help – his Alma Mater, every weeknights.
Scottie believes this would help him improve offense, especially the outside throw that now orders respect.
“Every night after dinner, binibigyan ko dalawang oras yung shooting ko sa Perpetual”, Thompson said.
The former Altas NCAA player, who lives in Las Pinas, makes it a point to spend practice from 8pm to 10pm. working on his shooting at the nearby University, which welcomes him warmly, having led them to a couple of NCAA Final Four trips on the way to winning league MVP in 2014.
The night routine is separate from the Brgy Ginebra’s practices early to start his sweat sessions with shooting drills prior to the real Gin Kings exercises start.
Hard work pays off indeed for the MVP.
Averaging just 5.5 points and 26.4 percent from three-point distance in his rookie season in the last 2015-16, Thompson has greatly enhanced those numbers. Checking at his stats in the eliminations of the last season, Thompson completed 26 out of his 76 attempts from beyond the arc for a solid 34-percent clip.
While, in the Governor’s Cup Finals against Meralco, the 6-foot-1 do it all guard got averages of 17.83 points, 8.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.17 steals in the series. After winning the Best Player of the conference plum, Thompson was also hailed as the 2022 PBA Press Corps Governor’s Cup Finals Most Valuable Player. He too was anointed next face of Ginebra and put on a sensational campaign in the six game series. Besides the trophy, Thompson also brought the new HONDA PCX 60 scooter.
It was also Thompson’s second Finals MVP award as he also won the Trophy back in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Scottie fondly shared that sometimes he plays with the current varsity players of his Alma mater.
