MANILA, Philippines – Myles Powell is preparing to take on one of the greatest defensive teams in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup this weekend.
Powell and the Bay Area Dragons will face another test in their season when they face the league-leading Magnolia Hotshots on Saturday at the Philsports Arena.
Powell’s expected matchup against Calvin ‘The Beast’ Abueva – or Jackson Corpuz – is already an intriguing subplot to the highly anticipated duel between the top two teams in the conference.

Powell’s expected matchup against Calvin ‘The Beast’ Abueva – or Jackson Corpuz – is already an intriguing undercurrent to the highly anticipated matchup between the conference’s top two teams.
Powell, who has averaged 43 points since reclaiming his status as the Dragons’ import, confessed he was excited to face one of the PBA’s premier teams.
“I was unable to attend the first two important games against San Miguel and Ginebra.” “They’re (the Hotshots) the most popular team out there, so I’m excited,” says Saif, a former Philadelphia 76er.
Powell, 25, sat out Bay Area’s games against the Beermen and Kings, while 6-foot-10 Andrew Nicholson held down the fort.

The Hotshots now lead the standings with a 7-1 record, but the Dragons are close behind at no. 2 with an 8-2 record tied with Converge.
Bay Area and Magnolia have both won two games in a row.
“We have a week to prepare for them, and we’ll be ready,” Powell said shortly after the Dragons defeated NLEX 118-98.
Powell, on the other hand, is looking forward to playing in front of a large crowd after missing the games against Ginebra and San Miguel.
“I’m impressed with the fans out here, and I know there’ll be a good crowd (on Saturday),” the Bay Area native said.
