MANILA, Philippines – In the ongoing 2023–24 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, Magnolia Chicken TimplLady defeated San Miguel 94–90 in an exciting match at the Philsports Arena, maintaining their perfect record. Thanks in large part to Tyler Bey’s incredible performance, the Hotshots officially qualified for the quarterfinals by winning seven straight games.

Tyler Bey proved his mettle by dishing out an incredible 31 points and 21 rebounds, which was crucial to Magnolia’s victory. With just under two minutes left in the game, the Hotshots held a commanding 90-point advantage, but San Miguel mounted a late rally. Still, Magnolia was able to remain composed and win, which was a big accomplishment for them this season.

Magnolia’s triumph enabled them to tie the franchise record for the greatest conference start, which was previously held during the 2008 Philippine Cup. Interestingly, June Mar Fajardo’s tragic left-hand fracture—which will keep him out of commission for four to six weeks—followed this victory. The Hotshots took advantage of San Miguel’s weakness and defeated them for the second time in a row.

Tyler Bey’s pivotal 8-1 run, which lifted Magnolia over an 82-79 deficit and ultimately sealed the victory, marked the game’s turning point. Jio Jalalon scored 11 points and dished out 11 assists, while James Laput added 14 points and seven offensive rebounds, demonstrating the team’s collective effort.

Magnolia’s success not only guarantees a spot in the playoffs but also makes them strong competitors in the ongoing PBA Commissioner’s Cup, as the team continues its amazing run. The Hotshots’ will to leave a lasting impression on the league is demonstrated by their tenacity and camaraderie in this game.

San Miguel had the opportunity to accumulate a 60 to 55 lead in the third quarter of the game, but Magnolia scored 68 points to end the quarter, with Ivan Aska scoring 29 points and pulling down six rebounds and Jericho Cruz scoring 16 points.
