Shawn Glover led Blackwater to its first victory, having beaten Phoenix Super LPG 108-105, on Friday in the 2023 PBA Governors’ Cup at the Ynares Center. Glover finished with 31 points, along with a crucial jump shot.
With 1:14 remaining in the fourth, Glover made a jump shot to assist the Bossing to retake the lead and ultimately avoid an implosion after rising steadily by as many as 12 points.
JVee Casio also delivered when it mattered most, helping Blackwater hold off a Phoenix comeback to tie its record at 1-1.
Tyler Tio missed a three-point attempt with the Fuel Masters’ final play of the game, denying them the opportunity to tie the game.
Interestingly, Tio’s putback to end a 6-0 run gave Phoenix a 98-97 lead, the Fuel Masters’ first and only lead of the game, but it was quickly erased after Glover shot.
With 43.1 seconds left, Casio, who only scored five points, made one of the game’s biggest baskets by connecting on a corner two to beat the shot clock. This gave Blackwater some breathing room.
The victory also put an end to a seven-game losing skid that had started with the Commissioner’s Cup.
Glover, who also grabbed 13 boards, ruined the achievement of Phoenix import Du’Vaughn Maxwell, who had 37 points and 17 rebounds.
Since it is difficult to lose 0-2, they approached this contest as a championship. Ariel Vanguardia, the Blackwater coach said.
Ato Ular had 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Baser Amer scored 17 points. Yousef Taha led Blackwater, which had a 34-22 lead at the start of the game, with 10 points and 13 blocked shots.
Tio completed with 15 points, and yet Phoenix is still scoreless after two games under interim coach Jamike Jaron.
