In the PBA 49th Season Governors’ Cup at Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Wednesday, San Miguel defeated NLEX 119-114, putting Marcio Lassiter one game away from a historic career milestone.

Lassiter made four three-pointers in the victory to bring his career total of three-pointers made to 1,243, which put him seven short of tying Jimmy Alapag for the most in league history. This put him ahead of Allan Caidic to take second place in the list.

In addition to being a historic play, Lassiter’s last three points of the game gave San Miguel a 105-100 lead in the third quarter after they had trailed by nine points earlier. This victory was sufficient for the Beermen to improve to 4-2 in Group A.

Additionally, SMB exacted revenge for its August 31 loss to NLEX at Cagayan De Oro City, losing 108-102.

In the closing minutes of the game, CJ Perez finished with 24 points, five rebounds, and four free throws, which sealed the victory. June Mar Fajardo chipped up with nine rebounds and 17 points.

However, Lassiter stole the show as he made three threes and returned to his typical fiery self following a sluggish start to the conference.

It was also Sheldon Mac’s first game wearing a San Miguel outfit following his replacement of Jordan Adams. With only one rebound, one assist, one steal, and one block, he carried the most of the scoring load despite only having 16 points.

Michael Miranda scored 18 points on 4-of-8 three-point shooting, while Robert Bolick finished with 24 points and 15 assists, his second-best of the season.

However, the PBA 49th Season Governors’ Cup game between Converge assistant coach Danny Ildefonso and NorthPort governor Erick Arejola ended in chaos on Wednesday at Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

After getting into a fight at the customary midcourt handshake after the FiberXers’ 107-99 victory over the Batang Pier, the two were seen being calmed down and separated by members of their respective teams.

Although Dave, Ildefonso’s son, was selected fifth overall in the most recent rookie draft, he has not yet signed with NorthPort. Arejola and Ildefonso declined to comment on the incident later.

The disturbance almost reached the hallway that leads to the dugout area, according to a witness, before security intervened.

Two-time league MVP Ildefonso found himself in hot water last month when he responded to hateful remarks made by fans on social media platforms requesting that the PBA suspend his son Dave for refusing to sign with the Batang Pier.

Willie Marcial, the PBA commissioner, called Ildefonso to apologize for his outburst on social media. On August 27, last year, he was fined P20,000.

NorthPort defeated Converge 135-109 two days after the suspension was imposed, and head coach Bonnie Tan said that Ildefonso’s remarks motivated the squad.

But on Wednesday, Converge defeated NorthPort 107-99 to even the score, and the skirmish happened right after.
