Jared Brown, the former Ateneo combo guard, who TNT selected at No. 7 in the third round of last month’s PBA Rookie Draft, will not be signed after several days of practices.
No information has been provided about whether a reported nasal injury influenced the decision, but Brown’s agent, DeShawn Harris, stated that the injury was “minor.”
Sources suggest that Brown’s injury “wouldn’t necessitate more than 2-3 weeks of recovery and that he could still participate in basketball after 4 days.” However, with the Governor’s Cup scheduled to commence on August 18, perhaps the Tropa did not want to delay, as team practices continued at the Moro gym.
Brown has been released and is able to join any team he chooses. In Season 86 of the UAAP, he was a player for the Blue Eagles, making 11 starts and achieving multiple 20-plus point games. Despite having one year of eligibility remaining, he chose to transition to professional basketball.
Many people think that his abilities, particularly his 3-point shooting and play-making, will serve him well in the professional leagues.
Jared found himself unable to take part in the Draft Combine due to an urgent matter, which would have given other teams the chance to assess him in the event that he becomes a free agent. He’s currently in a state of uncertainty, but he’s talented enough that he won’t struggle to find a team. This is simply a temporary setback, not the conclusion of his career.
Christian Standhardinger is settling in well at Terrafirma following his transfer from Barangay Ginebra in a major deal before the 49th season of the PBA. He is embracing the move with optimism and is determined to contribute towards Terrafirma’s success, aiming to replicate their strong performance in the Philippine Cup, where they made it to the quarterfinals for just the second time in franchise history.
“It’s professional basketball,” explained Standhardinger, 35, when questioned about his move from Barangay Ginebra to Terrafirma during the PBA Media Day.
“This is what professional basketball is all about and just trying to find a new goal and understanding yourself, finding a new goal… how you can affect winning for the team and how you can support your new teammates. That’s what I’ve done. We look solid.”
Monday’s PBA Media Day marked Standhardinger’s inaugural public appearance since his trade. At the event, he was already sporting the green Terrafirma jersey.
Standhardinger joined Terrafirma after spending three years with Barangay Ginebra, during which he was honored as the Best Player of the Conference in 2023. Despite this, Standhardinger stated that he aims to join Dyip as a supporting player, emphasizing his intention to primarily facilitate opportunities for their star player Juami Tiongson.
Standhardinger mentioned that he adapted quickly to the system implemented by Terrafirma coach Johnedel Carde.
“I think it’s very fast-paced. I think they have great spacing. Obviously, I have to adjust to the new system a lot. But I think it’s a good fit and I’m trying to do the best to be as efficient as possible within the system of this team,” Standhardinger noted.
