In the 49th Season Governors’ Cup of the PBA at Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Tuesday, Rain or Shine defeated NLEX 123-114 thanks in large part to an overtime heroics by ADRIAN Nocum.
The Elasto Painters tied San Miguel for top position in Group B with a 6-2 win-loss record before their rematch on Thursday thanks to six points from Nocum in an 11-2 game end.
Rain or Shine overcame a 22-point deficit to upset Barangay Ginebra last Friday, thanks in large part to the performance of Aaron Fuller, who finished with 23 points and 25 rebounds, and Anton Asistio, who finished with three free throws to end with 25 points.
With the overtime win, the Elasto Painters also secured their spot in the quarterfinals.
NLEX import DeQuan Jones’ debut was similarly marred by rain or shine. Jones finished with 49 points and 11 rebounds on 17 of 31 shots from the field, three of which came from beyond the arc.
After leading by 12, 105-93, with five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Rain or Shine emerged victorious. However, with 1:35 remaining, NLEX equalized the score, 110-108, thanks to a basket by Robert Bolick, who finished the game with 11 of his 28 points.
With 19.1 seconds left in regulation, Jhonard Clarito scored 15 points, including a reverse lay-up after a miss, to put the game into overtime at 110–110.

Asistio led Rain or Shine’s early offensive with 14 points already in the first quarter.
“Siguro for me, I just have to stay aggressive. Si Coach Yeng naman is known to give all his players opportunities. And sinasabi niya ‘yun sa amin the moment he stepped in Rain or Shine. Ako lang, ready lang ako when my number is called,” Guiao noted.
