Team Giannis defeats Team LeBron, NBA All-Star Game MVP award goes to Jayson Tatum

BOSTON, Massachusetts – At the annual showcase game on Sunday night in Salt Lake City, Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics set an All-Star Game record with 55 points, made 10 3-pointers, and was named MVP. He also helped Team Giannis defeat Team LeBron 184 to 175.

Team Giannis passed the desired score of 182 thanks to a pivotal 3-pointer from Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard.

Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers, previously of the Utah Jazz, scored eight 3-pointers while contributing 40 points and 10 assists to Team Giannis. Along with scoring 26 points, Lillard made eight 3-pointers.

With 35 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, Celtics forward Jaylen Brown led Team LeBron. For Team LeBron, Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers and Kyrie Irving of the Dallas Mavericks each scored 32 points while dishing out 15 assists.

Tatum scored point number 53 and made the score 177 to 162 with two free shots that he split. He outscored Anthony Davis’ 2017 record of 52 points, which he beat.

Tatum contributed 10 rebounds, 6 assists, and a 22 of 31 shooting percentage. In All-Star history, his 10 three-pointers are second only to the 16 made by Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors in the matchup from the previous year.

Tatum scored 17 points, Mitchell added 16, and Team Giannis led 99 to 92 at the break. To lead Team LeBron, Irving led with 18 points on 8 of 9 shooting.
