DENVER, Colorado – Jamal Murray scored 40 points, Nikola Jokic added 27 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists, and the Denver Nuggets won 122 to 113.
Going into Game 3 on Friday in Minneapolis, the Nuggets have a 2 to 0 series lead.
For the No. 8-seeded Timberwolves, Anthony Edwards scored a record-breaking 41 points, making 14 of 23 shots (including 6 of 10) from beyond the arc. Rudy Gobert led the way with 19 points, followed by Kyle Anderson with 10, Mike Conley with 14, Taurean Prince with 12, Karl-Anthony Towns with 10 and 12 rebounds, and Rudy Gobert with 19.
Minnesota led 89 to 87 heading into the fourth quarter thanks to a 40-point third quarter performance. Denver embarked on an 8 to 0 run to start the fourth quarter, taking the lead 95-89, but Edwards scored seven points during a 10 to 3 run to put the Timberwolves ahead 99-98 with 6:55 remaining.
With 5:33 left, three Nuggets free throws made it 104 to 99 after Porter’s 3-point attempt was followed by Minnesota’s next three missed shots.
With 3:14 left, Murray made a 12-footer and another 3-pointer after Edwards made two free throws to make it a 10-point game.
Before Murray retaliated with a long shot, Conley and Edwards scored 3-pointers to pull Minnesota within 115 to 109. Despite a 20-footer from Edwards, it was decided by a second alley-oop between Jokic and Gordon.
Up 21 points ahead in the second quarter, the Nuggets were then challenged by Minnesota, who eventually closed the gap to 64 to 49 at the break.
Denver led 70 to 55 after Murray’s basket with 9:41 left in the third before the Timberwolves went on a 14 to 0 run.
The run that brought the score to one point featured a 3-pointer from Towns, two dunks from Gobert, and five points from Edwards. The Minnesota Timberwolves’ 10 to 5 rally leveled the score at 79 after the Nuggets scored twice to go up by five.
Anderson’s dunk gave the Timberwolves their first lead since the opening frame after Jokic missed a pair of free throws.
