INDIANA, US Midwest – On crutches, Haliburton exited the arena. The Indiana Pacers were defeated by the New York Knicks on Wednesday night, 119 to 113. While the Pacers would have preferred a victory, it is more crucial to note that they lost their star player Tyrese Haliburton in the third quarter due to what the team described as a painful left knee. In order to ascertain the seriousness of the injury, Haliburton will be “checked out” on Thursday, according to Pacers coach Rick Carlisle, who also mentioned that Haliburton had departed the arena on crutches.

The accident happened as Haliburton drove toward the basket with 2:44 left in the third quarter. The other end of the court saw play resume as he twisted in the air to get his shot off around the rim, but he landed awkwardly and remained there. Halliburton was purposefully fouled by the Pacers to stop the game, and afterward he limped back to the locker room while wearing only one shoe. Here is how the harm came about:

According to Carlisle, Haliburton hurt his left elbow and knee on the play. The Pacers first designated Haliburton as doubtful to return to the game, but five minutes after making that declaration, they declared him out for the remainder of the contest. When he was injured, Haliburton had 15 points and seven assists.

If Haliburton left, a team like the Pacers, who have been among the surprises of the first half of the season, would suffer greatly. Haliburton has had a season worthy of an All-Star berth, and Indiana is now in the seventh spot in the East standings with a 23–19 record. Since being dealt to the Pacers at the trade deadline a year ago, Haliburton has been recording career highs in every category. He currently has 10.3 assists per game, which is the most in the league. He also has the highest scoring average (20.3 points per game), leading Indiana. The Pacers will have to rely on players like Buddy Hield and Myles Turner if Halliburton is forced to miss time. Turner was a late scratch from Wednesday night’s game after suffering back spasms prior to tip-off.
