MANILA, Philippines – In an attempt to win an eighth consecutive MVP title in the just finished Season 48, June Mar Fajardo is attempting to shatter his own PBA record.
With an average of 42.1 statistical points, the 6-foot-10 San Miguel standout and Gilas Pilipinas ace finished the season top of the MVP race after leading the Beermen to consecutive finals appearances, including a Commissioner’s Cup triumph.
With an average of 13.4 rebounds per game, Fajardo topped the league in rebounding in the previous season. In addition, he averaged 17.8 points, 2.8 assists, 1.7 blocks, and took home the Best Player of the Conference award in the Philippine Cup.
The 34-year-old big man from Cebu set a personal milestone last year when he won his seventh MVP award, an accomplishment never before seen in PBA history.

Calvin Oftana of TNT and Arvin Tolentino of Northport, with 35.9 and 35.4 points, respectively, round out the Top 5 in the MVP rankings.
Stephen Holt of Terrafirma is the front-runner to take home the Rookie of the Year trophy, though.
With 34.1 points, the Fil-Am guard—who was selected with the first overall choice in the previous year’s draft—leads the rookie race. He is sixth in the MVP rankings and leads all rookies in scoring (17.0 points), assists (5.5), and steals (1.9).
Last season, Holt assisted the Dyip in making it to the All-Filipino conference quarterfinals, where they advanced to the postseason for the first time in eight years.
Cade Flores of Northport leads all rookies in rebounds with 9.3 and is second only to Holt in scoring (23.3 points).
