MANILA, Philippines – Optimism is in the air as Gilas Pilipinas approaches a crucial stage in their FIBA World Cup preparations. Scottie Thompson’s return to team exercises on Sunday following a setback due to injury was encouraging news. Kai Sotto got the go-ahead to exercise without any restrictions, which was also promising. These developments serve as a reminder of the team’s commitment and development as they get ready to compete on the world basketball scene. The squad gains important resources with Thompson and Sotto’s return, improving their overall preparedness for the FIBA World Cup’s approaching obstacles.
During the official debut of the Gilas Pilipinas and Max’s partnership, national coach Chot Reyes gave a thorough update. He revealed that there were now 16 guys practicing for the team, making it fully assembled. Scottie Thompson showed up for full-contact practice last Sunday and seemed to be in good shape, he claimed. He was taking part in all of the games and activities without any restrictions, exactly like the other players.
Reyes also provided encouraging information regarding a different player, mentioning that Kai Sotto had joined the group for full-contact practice and was taking part in all elements of training much like the rest of the team. Al Panlilio, the president of Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, confirmed in a separate statement that Sotto had been given the go-ahead by Randolph Molo, the team’s physician, to participate in the forthcoming FIBA World Cup on August 25.
Although Scottie Thompson and Kai Sotto’s reports have been positive, coach Chot Reyes freely admitted that both players still need to work on their conditioning. Even though Sotto is 7 feet 3 inches tall and is the current PBA Most Valuable Player, Thompson’s basketball conditioning is not yet where it needs to be.
Reyes noted that even though the FIBA World Cup is quickly approaching, the Gilas Pilipinas team still has a 10-day window to focus on conditioning and reach the highest level of competition. The coach expressed hope for their development in the next few days with unflinching confidence.
Thompson suffered a right hand injury while working out with the Gilas team while they were in the Baltics, it’s important to note. Sotto, on the other hand, experienced a setback as a result of a back injury he sustained while competing in the NBA Summer League, which was held in Las Vegas in July.
The Philippines will play a series of tune-up games against Mexico, Montenegro, and Ivory Coast in the upcoming week as part of their training. The possibility exists for Thompson and Sotto to catch up with the rest of the training squad and improve their basketball conditioning through these private games.
While Scottie Thompson and Kai Sotto do need to work on their conditioning, the entire Gilas Pilipinas team’s devotion and commitment are crucial to their readiness for the upcoming FIBA World Cup. Their performance on the international stage will be significantly influenced by the team’s resiliency and the coaching staff’s assistance.
