Aguilar and Thompson place 1 to 2 in the PBA All-Star matchup between Team Japeth and Team Scottie

MANILA, Philippines – As captains of the two teams that would compete in the PBA All-Star Weekend’s main event on March 12 in Passi City, Iloilo, Japeth Aguilar and Scottie Thompson, both teammates for Barangay Ginebra, find themselves on the opposing sides.

With a total of 1,239,665 votes cast in the last round of voting for the All-Star poll, Aguilar took first place, followed by Thompson with 1,217,226.

The season-ending spectacle known as the All-Star draft is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 20. The two will alternately choose players from among the top 24 vote-getters to assemble their teams.

June Mar Fajardo and teammates from Ginebra Jamie Malonzo and Christian Standhardinger, who placed in the top five, are candidates for the two captain positions. In the final results, Malonzo received 1,196,423 votes, Standhardinger received 1,191,379 votes, and Fajardo received 1,207,592 votes, finishing in third place after initially leading the poll.

Tim Cone, the head coach of Ginebra, will take part in the festivities as well after receiving 1,291,785 votes to beat out Yeng Guiao, the coach of Rain or Shine, who received 1,231,538 votes to win the coaches’ poll.

The top 10 on the list also included James Yap of Rain or Shine, LA Tenorio of Ginebra, Calvin Abueva of Magnolia, Mark Barroca, and Stanley Pringle of Ginebra.

The top 20 also included CJ Perez, Paul Lee, Jayson Castro, Gian Mamuyac, Jeremiah Gray, Terrence Romeo, Robert Bolick, Marcio Lassiter, Arvin Tolentino, and RR Pogoy. Mikey Williams, Kevin Alas, Chris Newsome, and Nards Pinto completed the selection pool.
