MANILA, Philippines – The Flying Titans’ exciting Game 1 quarterfinal triumph over PLDT in the 2024–25 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference playoffs was largely due to Choco Mucho’s devoted fan base. An amazing comeback at the Philsports Arena was fueled by their enthusiasm and steadfast support.
PLDT got off to a good start, easily winning the opening two sets. Early pace control by Savannah Davison and her teammates gave them a dominant position. But as the game went on, the momentum changed. The High-Speed Hitters found it difficult to remain composed in a high-stress situation.
As Choco Mucho launched their comeback, the atmosphere inside the arena became more intense. There was a thunderous atmosphere as fans screamed after each point. For PLDT, the pressure got too much. It seemed as though Choco Mucho was ahead by a far greater margin, even with a slight deficit. The Flying Titans were greatly favored by the energy in the building.
Sisi Rondina was the star player who spearheaded Choco Mucho’s comeback. Her team overcame a two-set disadvantage thanks to her dominance in pivotal situations. By exploiting PLDT’s mistakes, the Flying Titans continued to play aggressively. Choco Mucho won the match 25-20, 25-19, 15-25, 20-25, and 16-18.
PLDT had trouble taking back control. Despite moments of genius, the team was plagued by unintentional mistakes and lost chances. Every rally became more challenging due to the pressure from the opposing fans. When it came to ending the match, the High-Speed Hitters required a response but were unable to do it.
Davison’s performance as an individual was exceptional. She recorded 19 outstanding receptions and scored 25 points. In the last seconds, PLDT failed despite her best attempts. She admitted that she could have done a better job in some places, especially in the later sets.
Prior to the quarterfinals, PLDT had gained confidence from their shocking victory over Creamline, the reigning champions. But Choco Mucho’s unrelenting enthusiasm was too much to bear. Davison understood that her teammates needed to contribute more. To win, the team couldn’t depend just on individual efforts.
With their backs to the wall, PLDT needs to get back together fast. Now, the emphasis is on Game 2, where they must make changes to salvage their season. Davison stressed the value of mental fortitude. The group needs to maintain composure, work well, and make fewer unintentional mistakes.
Match closure is still a major worry. PLDT had a great chance to win, but they had trouble staying consistent. A better finish and teamwork from the whole roster will be needed in Game 2.
One of the main causes of PLDT’s difficulties was the environment at Philsports Arena. It was hard to talk and concentrate because of the deafening loudness. While PLDT struggled to ignore the distractions, Choco Mucho flourished thanks to the enthusiasm of its supporters.
In the future, managing outside pressure will be essential. In Game 2, the High-Speed Hitters have to get ready for yet another boisterous and demanding crowd. As a result of this experience, people must devise methods for staying focused in any situation.
For PLDT, Game 2 is now a game of life or death. They would be out of the running for a championship if they lost. To counteract Choco Mucho’s aggressive style of play, the squad must make the required modifications. Better finishing skills, enhanced communication, and stronger defensive play will be essential.
Going into the upcoming game, Davison is still an important player. Her offensive output and leadership will be crucial. But she can’t lead the team by herself. We need more players to come up and help. The coaching staff at PLDT will also need to make tactical changes to improve the team’s chances of success.
The series is still going strong. With their skill and background, PLDT can force a decisive Game 3. But they need to be disciplined and aggressive in Game 2. They can’t afford to fail again.
Choco Mucho will try to keep up its pace. The Flying Titans will be ready to wrap up the series with the confidence they gained from the comeback victory. Once more, their supporters will make things difficult for PLDT.
