MANILA – Philippines’ Manila Brooke Van Sickle of the Petro Gazz Angels is expected to win the Premier Volleyball League’s (PVL) inaugural Season Most Valuable Player (MVP) title, which will be a significant turning point in the league’s ongoing development. On May 28, at the Novotel Manila Araneta City, she will get her official honor at the Pilipinas Live PVL Press Corps Awards Night.

Van Sickle was at the top of the league because of her steady all-around play during the 2024–2025 campaign. She had a key role in propelling Petro Gazz to championship status, especially when her team halted the Creamline Cool Smashers’ dominance at the PVL All-Filipino Conference. Creamline had been aiming for a fifth straight All-Filipino championship, but their hopes were dashed by Van Sickle’s powerful play on both ends of the court and leadership.

A weighted scoring system was used to decide the PVL’s first Season MVP. Half of the total score was determined by player statistics, 30% by media votes, and 20% by team captains and coaches. Out of all the nominees, Van Sickle received the most points (227.6). Her breakdown consisted of 45 team-based vote points, 66.3 media representative points, and 116.3 statistical points.

Bernadeth Pons of Creamline, her closest rival, scored 205.6 points, followed by Michele Gumabao of Creamline, who scored 151.4 points. The outcomes demonstrated Van Sickle’s dominant presence throughout the season, both in terms of her performance and how the league’s leadership and media saw her.

Van Sickle finished third overall in season-long scoring, according to statistics. She scored 296 attack points, 30 kill blocks, and 23 service aces for a total of 349 points. She notably led the league in both the average number of service aces (0.38) and aces per set. With a remarkable spiking efficiency of 36.86%, she was ranked second in the league. She was third in reception efficiency (35.37%) and sixth in digs per set (2.89), indicating a good defensive game as well.

These figures highlight her capacity to be a dual threat. She was a vital part of her team’s defensive plans in addition to being a formidable offensive player. She distinguished herself from other elite athletes and established herself as the obvious MVP front-runner thanks to her ability to perform well in every aspect of the game.

In addition to being named Season MVP, Van Sickle received a number of other honors throughout the year. Both the Reinforced Conference and the All-Filipino Conference recognized her as the Best Outside Hitter. For the All-Filipino event, she also won the Conference MVP title, which was her second consecutive All-Filipino MVP recognition. Her standing as one of the league’s best players was further cemented by these honors.

Her presence improved the Petro Gazz Angels’ overall performance. Her leadership and consistency were very beneficial to the team, which is renowned for its depth and resilience. Both coaching staff and teammates have commended her work ethic, competitive spirit, and capacity for high-pressure performance.

As the PVL continues to improve its standards and exposure on the local and regional levels, Van Sickle’s accomplishments mark a significant milestone. Instead of restricting awards to specific conferences, the league is working to institutionalize recognition for consistent excellence over the whole calendar year, which includes the introduction of the Season MVP award itself. The league is putting itself in a position where full-season recognitions are more common, more in line with international norms.

Another noteworthy aspect of the 2024–2025 PVL season was the rise in team parity and competition. Significant roster additions and tactical changes by a number of teams resulted in more competitive games with uncertain results. Van Sickle’s capacity to continuously produce excellent performances was made much more remarkable in that setting.

Brooke Van Sickle’s name will always be linked to this significant occasion as the PVL begins a new era with the official implementation of full-season honors. Her performance established a standard for aspiring MVP candidates and reaffirmed the increasing significance of individual brilliance in determining team performance.

In addition to honoring her efforts, her May 28 accolade will represent the PVL’s dedication to showcasing athletic excellence and the league’s growing professionalism. Van Sickle is a monument to what exceptional skill, commitment, and consistency can accomplish in the Philippines’ top volleyball competition as the sport continues to flourish there.
