MANILA, Philippines – Rain or shine, despite suffering from a series of ailments that have hampered their frontcourt, Elasto Painters are resolutely tackling the early difficulties of the 2024 PBA Philippine Cup. Due to the absence of important players, such as Keith Datu and Beau Belga, the club has had to reorganize its rotations and rely on less seasoned players to keep the line in the interior. However, the Elasto Painters have demonstrated that they are more than capable of standing their ground in a resolute manner.

Vertigo has prevented Belga, one of the team’s seasoned anchors and emotional leaders, from participating in their early games. Rain or Shine’s indoor presence is also restricted due to Keith Datu’s right calf discomfort. Players like Leonard Santillan, Caelan Tiongson, and even young guard Gian Mamuyac have taken on more responsibility as a result of these absences, but they have all come together to cover for them and keep the team’s defensive and rebounding identity intact.

The Elasto Painters dominated the rebounding contest in their most recent game against NorthPort, winning 66–54 on the boards, including a decisive 27–15 lead in offensive rebounds. In spite of the team’s low three-point shooting percentage, this effort resulted in 27 second-chance points. In the absence of their main big men, Rain or Shine demonstrated their dedication to doing the little things correctly with this show of grit and effort.

With 22 points, 13 of which came in the first quarter, Gian Mamuyac topped the scoring in the contest. Rain or Shine got off to a quick start thanks to his early offensive outburst. Stability was provided on both ends of the court by Leonard Santillan, who put up a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. During the pivotal period that sealed the team’s victory in the fourth quarter, Andrei Caracut scored 12 of his 15 points.
