Rain or Shine is getting a much-needed boost to its backcourt as two players make their way back into the fold, giving the Elasto Painters additional options after dealing with a depleted lineup.
The return of the pair comes at an important point for the team. Rain or Shine has been forced to adjust its rotation because of injuries, while changes to the roster have also created opportunities for younger players to step forward.
Now, with its recovering guards nearing full fitness, the Elasto Painters can begin looking at a deeper and more flexible rotation.
One of the players expected to provide a significant lift is Stanley Pringle.
The veteran guard brings considerable experience to a Rain or Shine roster that has undergone several changes. Before joining the Elasto Painters, Pringle established himself as one of the league’s more accomplished guards and became a four-time PBA champion during his years with Barangay Ginebra.
Rain or Shine acquired Pringle in 2025, hoping his experience and scoring ability could strengthen the team’s backcourt.
His return gives head coach Yeng Guiao another player capable of creating offense when possessions become difficult.
Pringle’s value extends beyond scoring. His experience in playoff situations and familiarity with the demands of professional basketball can provide stability, particularly when the team is relying on younger players.
The other returning guard, Felix Lemetti, represents a different but equally useful dimension.
Lemetti had emerged as an energetic offensive contributor for Rain or Shine before his injury interrupted his campaign. The young guard’s ability to attack the lane and put pressure on opposing defenses made him an important piece of the team’s rotation.
His absence meant Rain or Shine had to find other ways to generate offense from the backcourt.
The team’s adjustment period also coincided with a major roster change.
Rain or Shine parted ways with Gian Mamuyac in a trade with Phoenix, removing another player who had been part of the team’s backcourt rotation. The move created additional minutes for other players but also left the coaching staff with another hole to address.
Instead of allowing those setbacks to derail the team, Guiao turned to players who were available.
Rookie Deo Cuajao was among those who received a greater opportunity. The young guard responded by showing that he could handle increased responsibility, producing a strong scoring performance shortly after the trade.
Mike Malonzo also took advantage of his increased role, contributing across several statistical categories in Rain or Shine’s victory over Phoenix.
Their performances gave Guiao encouraging signs about the team’s depth.
However, the return of Pringle and Lemetti could change the equation once again.
Rather than simply replacing the players who filled in during their absence, the two returning guards give Rain or Shine more combinations to work with. Guiao can mix experienced players with younger contributors depending on the opponent, game situation and individual matchups.
That flexibility could become one of the team’s biggest assets.
The Elasto Painters have already had to manage injuries early in the Governors’ Cup. Guiao previously acknowledged that several members of the squad were unavailable, making it difficult to maintain the rotation he wanted.
Pringle was among those working toward a return, while Lemetti was expected to become available after the league break.
For a team competing through a long PBA campaign, having players return from injuries can make a major difference.
The key, however, will be ensuring that both guards are genuinely ready to handle competitive minutes.
Returning from an injury is not simply a matter of being cleared to play. Players also need to rebuild conditioning, timing and confidence. Guards in particular rely heavily on quick movements, changes of direction and physical contact, making full recovery especially important.
Rain or Shine will therefore have to manage the pair carefully.
The team also has to consider the progress made by the players who stepped up while the veterans were unavailable.
Cuajao and other younger players have gained valuable experience by being placed in situations they might not have encountered with a fully healthy roster. Those minutes could benefit Rain or Shine later in the season.
Instead of viewing the returning players as replacements, Guiao can potentially use the situation to create a more competitive internal rotation.
That could give Rain or Shine greater depth whenever injuries or foul trouble affect the lineup.
It could also allow the team to vary its approach.
Lemetti can provide energy and penetration, while Pringle offers veteran shot-making and experience. Younger guards can bring fresh legs and intensity. Together, those different qualities could give Rain or Shine several ways to attack opposing defenses.
The timing is also significant because the Elasto Painters are trying to establish momentum in the Governors’ Cup.
Rain or Shine endured a difficult beginning to the conference but eventually picked up an important victory against Phoenix. That result demonstrated that the team could respond despite its personnel problems.
A healthier roster now provides Guiao with more resources to build on that response.
The biggest question will be how quickly Pringle and Lemetti can regain their rhythm and how their return affects the chemistry of the group.
Rain or Shine has already shown that it can find contributions from unexpected sources. With two more guards becoming available, the team has another opportunity to strengthen its rotation without necessarily abandoning the progress made by its younger players.
For the Elasto Painters, the return of the pair is therefore about more than simply adding two names back to the lineup.
It gives Guiao additional ball-handling, scoring, experience and tactical flexibility. After navigating injuries and roster changes, Rain or Shine finally has the chance to work with a deeper backcourt.
And with the season still unfolding, that added depth could become an important part of the team’s push for greater consistency.
