Forward Ladis Lepalam is determined to keep his professional basketball career moving forward after being released by the Meralco Bolts, with the hardworking wing now hoping to land an opportunity with the Converge FiberXers in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

The 6-foot-6 forward recently parted ways with Meralco, ending a brief stint with the team. While the separation marked a setback, Lepalam remained focused on finding a new path in the league and continuing to prove that he belongs on a PBA roster.

Instead of dwelling on the release, the 27-year-old has shifted his attention toward preparation and staying ready for whatever opportunity may come next.

“I’m thankful for the chance Meralco gave me,” Lepalam shared. “Even though my time there was short, I learned a lot. Now my focus is on improving and being ready for the next team that might need me.”

Among the possible destinations being discussed is Converge, a young but ambitious franchise that has continued to explore ways to strengthen its lineup. Lepalam’s combination of size, defensive energy, and versatility could make him a useful addition for a team that values effort and flexibility from its forwards.

Although he did not see extended minutes during his time with Meralco, Lepalam gained valuable experience practicing alongside seasoned professionals and adjusting to the demands of the PBA. The jump from collegiate competition to the professional level is significant, and even short stints can help players develop a better understanding of the league’s pace and physical style.

Prior to entering the PBA, Lepalam made his mark in college basketball while playing for the University of the East Red Warriors in the UAAP. During his years with the Red Warriors, he built a reputation as a player who relied on effort, defense, and rebounding to impact games.

His athleticism and length allowed him to guard different positions, while his willingness to chase loose balls and battle for rebounds made him a valuable presence on the floor. Those same traits helped him draw attention from professional teams looking for role players who can bring energy and defensive intensity.

However, earning consistent playing time in the PBA can be difficult, particularly on teams with established rotations. With Meralco competing at a high level and relying on experienced players, Lepalam often found himself waiting for limited opportunities to contribute during games.

Despite the challenge, people close to Lepalam say he remained committed to working on his game throughout his stay with the Bolts.

“He kept his head down and continued improving,” said a source familiar with his training. “Even if the minutes weren’t there, he stayed professional and kept preparing.”

Since becoming a free agent, Lepalam has continued his training regimen while waiting for potential workouts or team evaluations. Much of his recent work has focused on strengthening his outside shooting and overall conditioning—two areas that can increase a forward’s value in today’s fast-paced PBA environment.

Players who can stretch the floor while still providing defense and hustle often become important pieces in modern lineups. Lepalam hopes that expanding his offensive skill set will help him stand out as he pursues another opportunity.

If Converge does decide to give him a chance, Lepalam believes he can contribute in a number of ways.

“I’m ready to help however I can,” he said. “It doesn’t always have to be scoring. I can defend, rebound, and bring energy. I just want to do my part for the team.”

For the FiberXers, players like Lepalam could add depth and competition within the roster. Since joining the league in 2022, Converge has focused on building a competitive squad by mixing established players with hungry talents eager to prove themselves.

Adding players who are motivated to earn their place can sometimes provide a boost to a team’s overall energy and work ethic.

At this stage, nothing has been finalized regarding Lepalam’s future. Still, the forward remains optimistic that another opportunity will present itself.

Professional basketball careers are often filled with ups and downs, and many players have used setbacks as motivation to come back stronger. Lepalam is hoping his story will follow that same path.

For now, he continues to put in the work while waiting for the next call.

“I just need one opportunity,” Lepalam said. “When it comes, I’ll be ready.”
